Testing Frequency: How Often Should You Get Tested for HIV & STIs?

Updated: 1 day ago

Getting tested for HIV and STIs is a smart part of routine care. The CDC says everyone ages 13 to 64 should get an HIV test at least once as part of regular health care. People with ongoing risk should get tested at least once a year, and some people may need testing more often.

For people using PrEP, testing is usually more frequent. The CDC says oral PrEP follow-up includes repeat HIV testing before refills, which are generally limited to no more than 90 days until the next HIV test. That is one reason many people on PrEP are tested about every 3 months

For STI testing, the right schedule depends on your sex life, partners, and any recent exposure. Routine screening, STD testing, and HIV testing are common search terms because many infections can happen without symptoms. Local Orlando-area clinics also highlight ongoing testing, prevention, and fast access to care.

A simple rule is this: test at least once, test yearly if you have risk, and test more often if your provider recommends it. Seek care at Pineapple Healthcare for HIV testing, STI testing, and guidance on the right testing schedule for you.
